ASPIRATIONAL LIVING STEP BY STEP

ASPIRATIONAL LIVING

Aspirational living has it’s own vocabulary.

“I would have done that.”

“I could have done that.”

“How hard can it be?”

Sometimes reality sets in sooner than later, as it should.

You’re not as kind and sweet and caring as you’d hoped?

Welcome to the party. Who else is here? Every baby boomer with eyes and ears.

Not so much with millennials, but time will fix that.

Boomers have choices to make in aspirational living based on experience, a lot of choices.

I know I do, so I’ll go first:

I’m a blogger with a worldwide audience devouring my daily posts to improve their day.

From Oman to Oregon my readers sit before their screens, all patience and sweetness.

What are they really waiting for? They’re waiting for help, any help to make sense of their situation.

And I aspire to do that work whether they wait or not.

The Situation?

One of my gym-girls slid up and said:

“Look at these kids, these millennials. They don’t know how good they’ve got it. Both parents alive, brother and sisters and friends and no one has died.”

At least that was the view from afar. Was she wrong? Probably, but everyone looks well and hearty while they work out.

That’s part of the gym-addiction.

I was a high school senior the first time a death hit hard.

A bubbly girl went out on Saturday and got sick and died.

From the World Health Organization:

What is the most common cause of acute meningitis?

Meningitis can be caused by several species of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Most infections can be transmitted from person to person. Injuries, cancers and drugs cause a small number of cases. Bacterial meningitis is the most common dangerous type of meningitis and can be fatal within 24 hours.

She was a writer.

Fifty years later and I remember the following Monday morning like it was last Monday.

Aspirational living would put her at the next high school reunion.

Her name would be called and her accomplishments listed. It would be a long list because she had it going and seemed ready to remake the world in a better image.

The Goals Of Aspirational Living

Leading the way? A leader, a worker, or both?

I’ve known a few ‘leaders’ over the years but only a few standout.

They are the ones who keep showing up, keep doing the work, and keep setting an example worthy of mention.

But I’m not mentioning them here, at least not yet.

Until then, let’s talk about me and this blog, boomerpdx.

Everybody has an embarrassing secret, a harmless obsession they don’t share unless pressed.

For some it’s the books they read.

“I love romance.”

Colleen Hoover does too.

“I love watching NFL football games.”

Who else loves the NFL?

Gamblers.

What do you love? Do you show up everyday and work on it? Whatever that is, love it.

There’s a saying writers live by: You need to love the book your writing because at some point you’re going to hate it.

Call it a learning process.

Now get to work.
