MISTAKEN IDENTITY: ONE ‘MY BAD’ MOMENT

‘My bad’ is not anyone else’s  bad, not your bad, not their bad, unless:
What you did hurt others.
You did it with malicious intent.
You smeared your family name and showed a special kind of  jack-ass on C-span.
As a Portland State trained historian, with two decades of seasoning in historical agency work, I feel a duty to explain, to contextualize current affairs, but from a distance.
To start, if you and your ilk see the past through a veil, pull it off.
Without the gauze covering your eyes and ears one thing ought to be obvious: a hawk is a hawk.
It’s a bird with bird features like wings and a beak and feathers and eyes.
One college team thinks so much of hawks they call themselves the Iowa Hawkeyes.
It’s a storied university with the Iowa Writers Workshop and Iowa Wrestling along with women’s basketball and Big-10 football.
I visited there as a young man, hitchhiking all the way from the Oregon coast, won a few wrestling matches, wrote a poem, and hitchhiked home with an all-America award.
It’s no Portland State, few places are, but the Hawkeyes are solid.
Then there’s Missouri with their ‘show me’ spirit.
It’s right under Iowa and looks like Georgia.
They don’t have hawks there from the looks of things.

Hawkeye, Jay Hawk, Your Hawk, My Hawk

When a senator makes a ‘my bad’ mistake on national television, complete with an amateur flash card that look like it was made by proud third grader parents to show their kid’s summer vacation in class, how do they save face.
If the senator is a hound-dogged looking man dying his hair a familiar reddish tone, he’s in the club.

In 2020, Schmitt was among 17 Republican attorneys general who joined Texas attorney general Ken Paxton in suing Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania to invalidate their electoral votes in the 2020 United States presidential election.

This Schmitt was Missouri AG in 2020, and ran for the senate in 2021.

In the speech announcing his candidacy, Schmitt tied himself to Donald Trump and railed against “the radical left”
The day before the primary, Trump released a statement endorsing “ERIC”.
Schmitt was joined in the Republican primary by two other candidates with that name, former governor Eric Greitens and lesser-known candidate Eric McElroy.
Trump did not indicate which candidate or candidates he was endorsing, and declined to clarify.

When the boss wants an Eric, he gets an Eric.
When the right Eric sucks up to the boss, as one does, he gets attention for a promotion.
‘Do it the way you’re told to do it and you might be on the Vice President list.’
In other words, follow orders.
Do that and you have a built in excuse when you face the question of, ‘what were you thinking?’
Following orders? Like the boys at Nuremberg?
Their last order was to hang by their neck and die. And they did.
That’s not what we’re doing in America.
We follow the laws of the land, and work to change the laws of the land if we don’t like them.
That’s why we vote for the candidates we think will do the best for the HOA, the school board, the city, the county, the state, the region, the nation, and hopefully, the world.
Do the people of Missouri who voted for Eric Schmitt approve of his bird watching work?
Did they elect an old hound dog to flush out hawks, or a senator to represent the great state of Missouri on the national stage?

Love Their Senator Schmitt

love

Sports fans know their hawks, senators from Missouri not so much.
Even with Jay Hawks on their western border, and Hawkeyes on their northern border, the new hack is still confused with the Atlanta Hawks.
From my experience watching hawks do their work in the air, a senator with his head so far up his ambition cannot fly.
Eric grounded himself between Georgia and Maryland, between an NBA game and a college game, between a man’s professional league and women’s college schedule.
It’s an easy mistake, given the circumstances. Eric, or Eric, or Eric, and hawk, hawk, hawk.
Was there a college basketball game between the women on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Maryland Terrapins?
Yes, from all available evidence.
Was Jack Smith in attendance?
Yes, based on his testimony and available evidence.
Did senator Eric claim Jack Smith was at an Atlanta Hawks game instead, using it as a cover for a secret mission impossible?
Yes, based on available evidence.
What else does evidence show?

PS:

Don’t bring amateur skills to a professional setting and expect them to work.

PSS:

When a man seasoned in the world courtrooms facing war criminals and winning, faces a senator Eric, there’s a lesson to be learned on boomerpdx, and this baby boomer blogger is a fan.
Stand by the rule of law we live by and give complete answers to asinine questions about hawks, these hawks, and those hawks.
Why I like Jack Smith.
He’s not a performer for the television cameras, knows his job, and keeps himself on task.
Be like Jack Smith.
He knows all about mistaken identities and a ‘my bad’ moment.
The other guy, the Eric, not so much.
Still, go Tigers. Which Tigers? Ask Eric.
