“REALLY HIGH” BY KEVIN LOVE

Kevin Love of NBA, UCLA, and Lake Oswego High fame listed a few things he likes to do when he gets high, what he likes to do when he’s really high, adding more for when he’s REALLY high.
The big man is talking about weed, marijuana, dope, ganja, grass, hippie lettuce, herb, pot, Mary Jane.
That’s what he talking about? I think so.
He’s talking about cannabis, the polite word for polite people who get high on the sly.
They like to say, “Cannabis is legal,” and clean, and far from the grubby days of shaking a baggie out on a tilted Cheech and Chong album cover to separate the stems and seeds that you don’t need.
It reminded me of a song to sing along with:

panama red, panama redhe’ll steal your woman, then he’ll rob your headpanama red, panama red
on his white horse, mescalitohe come breezin’ through towni’ll bet your woman’s up in bed withpanama red
the judge don’t know when red’s in townhe keeps well hidden undergroundbut everybody’s acting lazyfalling out and hangin’ ’round
my woman said, “hey pedroyou’re actin’ crazy like a clown”nobody feels like workingpanama red is back in town
everybody’s looking out for him’cause they know red’s satisfieslittle girls love to listen to himsing and tell sweet lies
but when things get too confusing, honeyyou’re better off in bedand i’ll be searching all the joints in town forpanama red

It’s been a toe-tapper since 1973, which is where I am listening to Love let it out.

From The Video

The guy on the right is a network host on NBA Finals TV, Richard Jefferson.
That’s his expression when his guest, former teammate Kevin Love, talks about his down time.
Does he look pained, like he’s thinking ‘why did I invite this guy on?’
How about now?

Is this a big weed moment when a recognizable sports figure talks not only about getting high, but getting REALLY high?
If this were the late seventies and eighties and getting really high meant cocaine, this interview would never happen.
Instead, it’s 2026 and everything is cool?

Does Kevin Love get a pass on weed due to his history, and a change to rules and law.
In the past weed was a ticket to jail. Or worse.
Love was on his way to somewhere before he got a healthier look at his future.
Instead of letting himself go, he geared up with diet and hydration and vision.
He saw himself turning into an NBA load chugging up and down the court before he made the change.
And he likes to get high.

Mental Health Advocate Kevin Love

Mental health and reefer aren’t always a good match.
If someone you know seems like they’re drifting away in a cloud of weed smoke do you wave goodbye, or say something like, “Maybe it’s the weed?”
Chain smoking joints, a portable bong, or a vape pen with a never ending cartridge might be a clue.
But if everything is locked in and working, is there a problem, or just a bad habit?
Kevin Love says he likes to get high and watch basketball highlights, which seems reasonable enough.
If someone has a clean record and likes to get high, and it’s legally acceptable, the problems come from those who need more from their heroes than they have to give.
Is he a role model? Ask Greg Oden. If he did what Kevin Love did he’d still be in the league, or would have played more than he did.
A guy who figures out how to do what he wants to do is a role model. None are perfect, so use the parts that work for you and carry on.
A strong diet with boundaries to keep mental health in the right lane is good advice for anyone.
Hats off to Kevin Love.

PS:

Is he the best big man from an Oregon high school since Mel Counts of Coos Bay, Oregon State, the Boston Celtics, and LA Lakers?

PSS:

Yes.
